“A true gentleman of the game and in person”
David Gower OBE David Gower OBE was an elegant left-handed English batsman who played 117 Tests and 114 ODIs, scoring over 11,000 international runs. He captained England from 1984-1988, leading them to an Ashes victory in 1985. Renowned for his stylish batting likened to poetry, Gower scored a career-best 215. He was awarded an OBE in 1994 and inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009. Post-retirement, Gower authored books, worked as a commentator, and supported bat conservation as a patron of the Bat Conservation Trust. His artistry with the bat made him one of England's most revered cricketers.
